Storytellers

Storytelling is a tremendous program for children and adults. Christianstorytelling.com is excited to provide a list of storytellers on the bottom half of this page. They are available to speak at churches and other Christian organizations.

We also have a list of trainers who are skilled at teaching storytelling to Christian workers. In the month of January, we will be adding contacts to both lists. If you are interested in appearing on our list of storytellers, email us and we'll contact you with more information.

A word of caution

These tellers:

  • come from various denominations
  • differ in their own personal walk with God
  • differ in their ability to tell stories
  • differ in the fees they charge
Storytellers

CSN recommends that each organization carefully question a storyteller before inviting him/her to their function. Here are a few sample questions to ask.

  1. What church do you attend? What denomination is it?
  2. How often do you attend church?
  3. Do you use any questionable language in your presentation?
  4. How long have you been telling stories professionally?
  5. Do you have a reference list?
  6. What kind of stories do you tell?
  7. What storytelling programs do you offer?
  8. Can you send us a recording of your storytelling?
  9. How much do you charge for your program?
  10. What equipment do you require for your presentation?

Loren Miller

Loren Miller As Loren tells Bible stories, the stories come to life while conveying the great truths of scripture. You'll feel the intense heat as King Nebuchadnezzar throws Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into the furnace. At the same time, you'll realize God is with you in your own trials. Loren is available as a speaker for Sunday services or special events. He will develop new stories for your particular event.

Loren will also come to your church to present the Bringing Bible Stories to Life workshop. The workshop teaches participants a step-by-step process of how to turn a written Bible passage into a vivid, oral story that comes to life in the minds of the listeners. The workshop is easily customized to meet the needs of your group. The skills learned in this session are valuable for children's Sunday School teachers, adult Sunday School teachers, small group leaders, pastors, youth workers, parents, and grandparents. Be sure to ask about a "Storytelling Sunday."

Loren, his wife Deb, and their four boys live near Bloomington, IL. They are active members of Hopedale Mennonite Church.

Mike Lockett

Dr. Mike Lockett Dr. Mike Lockett is a teller of traditional tales. Known for his humorous children‘s stories and audience participation tales, he is also experienced with using a wide variety of dialects to make stories come alive for audiences. During his 33–years as a public school teacher and administrator, Mike gave more than 1200 programs on reading, language arts, parent involvement, working with at-risk students, and many other topics – in addition to storytelling. He has written a number of sort articles and abstracts for journals and educational organizations. He published five sets of “story cards,” each containing eight children‘s stories, and wrote one chapter for John Walsh’s book, The Art of Storytelling, published by Moody Bible Press. Since retiring from education, Mike has started a small publishing venture, called Heritage Schoolhouse Press. It is his goal to create and disseminate storytelling materials for use in schools, libraries, churches, and homes. Through Heritage Schoolhouse Press, Mike has released two audio storytelling CD’s, “Tales from the Hills” and Tales from Around the World. It is Mike’s goal to continue developing and sharing stories through publications and through programs.

Mike grew up in the Swedish Covenant Church in Rockford, Illinois. He accepted Christ while at Bible Camp at Covenant Harbor during his teen years. He says he learned much about storytelling from two of his Sunday School teachers as a child. Mike and his wife Becky are members of East Wite Oak Bible Church in Carlock. They both sing in the choir and Mike volunteers in the Sunday School and at Awanna, telling stories. He took John Walsh’s class on “Telling Bible Stories” and on “Bible Telling,” and has begun to write and tell Bible stories for his own church and for others. His stories have been featured on Christianstorytelling.com. He has spoken for church groups in Illinois, Missouri and Nebraska, telling stories and witnessing for Christ. Though he has been successful in his work at churches with telling Bible Stories, Mike still feels like a novice in Bible Telling and plans to continue volunteering at his own church to practice this new skill before taking it out on the road.

Mike is available to tell stories or give workshops anywhere. He is willing to go where he is needed and is not limited by distances. He travels as “The Normal Storyteller”, bringing his stories and music to children, families, and senior groups. You can learn more about Mike and the types of programs he has given by looking at his website MikeLockett.com. He is willing to create special programs upon request.

He can be contacted at (309) 454-2300 or by writing him at 1401 Heritage Road West, Normal, IL 61761
